Bullies In School And "Zero Tolerance"

This is a subject very close to my heart. Please read and reply if you have been through this, or are willing to do something more to educate people about it so kid's can stand up, not be afraid to go to school and get the education promised to them!

Just in passing the other day I made a simple reply to a post on Facebook regarding the high school student that picked her friend up from a party after she'd had to much to drink. The girl was in a lot of trouble for simply helping out her friend in need. She did the right thing.
My post was regarding the fact that they will deal with her this way and she did nothing wrong, but won't deal with bullies! About how "zero tolerance" in schools, when it comes to bullying, is not being enforced. There have been almost 50 replies to it all agreeing, and these are from all over the country. What is the deal with this and why are schools so afraid of dealing with these kid's?! Something more has got to be done to make these families see that it's not going to be tolerated and we will stand up to these kid's AND their parents! Who would be willing to support a group trying to get more info out there to help educate or support the families of bullies?
I don't even know where to start but someone has to do something more. Should my kid have to be threatened with a gun at school before something is done? That's pretty much how is was put to us when we went through this a few years ago. We all know that no child who is being bullied, and scared to death to even go to school is going to tell someone. I'm researching this further, you will see more on this subject!~pm
